During this session, teachers and/or students will participate in an overview of the ACT Writing Essay. As educators we know that successful high school and future college students will be judged on their writing and analytical skills. There will be a focus on skills necessary to write a cogent argumentative essay. The session will review in depth the types of prompts (three perspectives), the correlation between the prompt and ACCRS standards, criteria for scoring the ACT Writing, how to plan an essay, and components of a good introduction, body, and concluding paragraph. In a school setting, students would participate in a practice session that would conclude with a critique and discussion of the essays they had written.
